MCLEAN, Va., September 30, 2009 — Eligible Medicare beneficiaries in Virginia now can obtain coverage for certain expenses not covered by original Medicare under a set of individual Medicare Supplement plans offered by Aetna (NYSE: AET). Effective October 1, Aetna will begin marketing three different individual Medicare Supplement plan options to all eligible Medicare beneficiaries in the state. Aetna also offers Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO plans in Fairfax, Arlington, Loudoun and Prince William counties. “We’re very pleased to be able to offer additional coverage options for eligible Medicare beneficiaries in the Commonwealth of Virginia,” said Eric Cormier, head of Aetna’s Retiree Markets for the Mid-Atlantic Region. “With an Aetna Medicare Supplement plan, these people can receive affordable coverage for various expenses not picked up by original Medicare.” With an Aetna Medicare Supplement plan, eligible Medicare beneficiaries continue to maintain the freedom to choose their own doctor, because any physician or other provider who is eligible to receive Medicare reimbursement also can accept payment from a Medicare Supplement plan. By adding a competitively priced Medicare Supplement plan, eligible Medicare beneficiaries can receive coverage not offered by the original Medicare program, such as coverage for Medicare Part A and Part B coinsurance and deductibles. Members also can easily pair an Aetna Medicare Supplement plan with Aetna’s stand-alone Medicare prescription drug plan (PDP) to obtain coverage for certain pharmacy expenses. Aetna’s individual Medicare Supplement plans offered in Virginia include a one-year rate guarantee, plus discounts on gym memberships and other fitness products and services; vision and hearing products and services; weight-loss programs; and oral health care products. Aetna provides health benefits to more than 475,000 members in Virginia. Those members have access to contracted networks that include 97 acute-care hospitals, 2,513 primary care physicians and 10,720 specialists. About Aetna |
