And that includes fully insured, guaranteed issue pre-65 and post-65 retiree plans that can cover 100 percent of retirees nationwide. All of which can be customized to satisfy your specific retiree objective : 

Pre-65 early retirees
We have a number of options for early retirees not eligible for Medicare: 

  • Group-subsidized plans, including consumer-directed Aetna HealthFund®  plans to help save for future medical expenses  
  • Fully insured, guaranteed issue pre-65 plans
  • Individual plan options, including some that can be used with a health savings account

Post-65 Medicare-eligible retirees
Our Medicare Advantage plans help retirees stay healthy and protect their financial health. They feature:

  • No employer subsidy required with some plans. Keep your costs down while still offering quality group retiree coverage.

    • Aetna MedicareSM Plan (PPO) – Access model with large expanding network of providers; option for national coverage with the PPO Extended Service Area (ESA) plan when a majority of retirees resides in our Aetna Medicare PPO network service areas   
    • Aetna MedicareSM Plan (HMO) – Features predictable costs and large provider network .
    • Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage can be integrated into our PPO and HMO medical plans, or offered as a standalone Aetna Medicare Rx® (PDP) plan.

Aetna Supplemental Retiree Medical (SRM) Plan**
These plans can augment your health plan choices with a traditional, cost-effective option.

  • Covers deductibles and coinsurance not covered by Medicare Parts A and B after Medicare pays Parts A and B medical benefits
  • Use any health care provider that accepts Medicare
  • A range of plan designs familiar to retirees
  • Ability to offer our Medicare Advantage plans in network service areas and fill in other areas with the SRM Plan. (Or offer the SRM Plan alone in its specific service areas)
Aetna Traditional Choice® Plan

An indemnity health plan that coordinates with Original Medicare, covering gaps in Medicare Parts A and B coverage such as deductibles and coinsurance.

  • Alternative solution if a plan member experiences provider disruption
  • Similar indemnity plan to both Medicare-eligible (post-65) and non-Medicare-eligible (pre-65) retirees
  • Post-65 retiree plan minimally affected by potential fluctuations in government funding
Aetna’s Public Sector Retiree Health Program
