Short Term Disability (STD) pays a weekly benefit to members who suffer a qualifying injury or illness. Members must remain disabled for a pre-determined period of time, commonly referred to as an elimination period, before receiving benefit payments. STD (otherwise known as Temporary Disability Income Benefit or TDI) benefit provides the employee with a certain amount of benefits for a specified period of time. An employee who remains disabled beyond this specified period of time may then be eligible for Long Term Disability Benefits.
STD Benefits
You receive a portion of your predisability earnings each week, for a specified number of weeks. Note that Aetna may require you to undergo rehabilitation services to help you return to work. The STD benefit you receive from Aetna may be reduced by other income you are eligible to receive. Certain types of disabilities are not covered under your STD plan. Contact your employer for more details.
Not all benefit plans are available to all members. If you do not know which benefits are available through your Aetna disability plan, and for a complete list of exclusions and limitations, please contact your benefit administrator.
Life and Disability benefits and insurance plans contain exclusions and limitations. See plan documents for a complete description of coverage.
